The Vembanad Lake, Kumarakom.
11.06.05 (11:10 pm)   [edit]
Vembanad Lake, KeralaKottayam is a vast network of rivers and canals with a great expanse of water called the Vembanad Lake. The lake is an enchanting picnic spot and a fast developing backwater tourism destination and provides boating, fishing and sightseeing experiences that are truly exhilarating. The Kumarakom Tourist Village offers houseboat cruises and holiday packages. The serene lake comes alive during the festival of Onam with a spectacular water regatta - the snake boat races. It is indeed amazing to watch oarsmen, at least a hundred in one boat, slice their way through the waters to the fast rhythm of their own full throated singing.

Its happy news for tourists and nature lovers as the exotic flora found in Munnar known as Neelakurinji is all set to bloom in the year 2006. The most peculiar feature of this flower is that it blooms only once in 12 years, and covers the hills of munnar in blue colour. So a great flow of tourists can be expected in Kerala especially to munnar in the year 2006.
